Joe Perkins Design was honoured to be tasked with designing one of the seven ‘city gardens’ for the 2023 Shenzhen Flower Show.
Our project explored the vital mangrove habitats that play a crucial role in mitigating erosion, sea level rise, and extreme weather conditions, reflecting Shenzhen's international recognition for habitat preservation and regeneration.
As a forward-thinking landscape and garden design practice, we aim to create sustainable, biodiverse, and beautiful outdoor spaces that enhance both the environment and people's connection to nature.
Technology is reflected by pulsing LED lighting both along the sculptures and within the spherical ‘foliage’ above the structure. Recognising that nature and ecology also need separation from the human environment, the garden is designed to be viewed from either end, rather than walked through.
The garden won the award for Horticultural Excellence.
