Our ethos

Forward-thinking design grounded in place

Joe Perkins Design is known for creating forward-thinking gardens and landscapes that are both beautiful and purposeful.

We design to the spirit of the place, responding to the architecture, the local landscape and the way people will experience and enjoy the space.

Connecting people with nature

Our goal is to connect people with nature. Every garden is designed for how it will be lived in and cared for, as well as how it looks and feels.

Collaboration with our clients is central to our process - understanding their needs, aspirations and priorities
helps us create gardens that feel personal, welcoming and enduring.

Attention to detail

Attention to detail runs through everything we do, from the first sketches to the final planting and beyond.

Our aim is to make gardens that sit comfortably in their
landscape, that grow and evolve beautifully over time, and that make a positive contribution to both people and the environment.

Designing with the future in mind

Our approach considers how gardens will adapt to the changing climate, supporting biodiversity and the ecosystems around them.

We plant for wildlife and pollinators, reuse materials from the site wherever possible, and favour local sources to reduce waste and environmental impact.

We knew practically nothing about garden design when we first approached Joe and his team, who were amazing from the start. We said that the gardens we  most liked were the Alhambra in Granada, Jim Thompson's garden in Bangkok and a traditional English country garden. Joe's team really listen to what you say and work incredibly hard to ensure that the end result reflects those discussions. Somehow the feel of all three of those diverse gardens in a very constrained and difficult site were incorporated... and the garden we have is a wonder - and we feel very lucky to be surrounded by it.

Residential 'Urban Terrace' client

Our work with Joe Perkins has been a great experience for the whole team - they bring their design training with a real grounding in practical solutions for our horticulturalists and I have no hesitation in recommending him and his work.

David Richardson, Horticulture Commonwealth War Graves

Having worked with a variety of garden designers throughout my career, Joe Perkins have been by far the most inspiring, supportive and in tune with not only the client needs and objectives, but also what is appropriate for a garden of this standing. Joe and his team have deeply connected with us as the client and have taken time to truly understand us, our opportunities but also our challenges.
