The aim for this design is to connect the house more fully with its surroundings.
A large central courtyard, viewed from throughout the ground floor of the building, functions as a transition space, encouraging use of the wider garden by setting the main dining terrace one step removed from the kitchen and living areas.
Expansive planting of grasses and meadow-style perennials both envelop the terraces and allow views out across the surrounding fields.
An existing fence has been removed, providing much stronger connection between the original garden and the adjacent meadow, and a bold central axis formed by an avenue of hornbeam leading to a well-placed seat below a mature and stately boundary oak tree.
