Project type

Public Space

Location

National Forest, Derbyshire

Status

Completed Summer 2022

Originally created for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022, our Meta Garden 'Growing The Future' was generously donated to the National Forest in Derbyshire by Meta.

Following a few design alterations, the entire garden was been relocated to the Conkers Discovery Centre in the heart of the forest where it can be enjoyed by visitors.

Volunteer groups were involved in the planting and aftercare whilst the construction was meticulously performed by The Landscaping Consultants, the same team who built the garden at the Chelsea Flower Show, and who were an integral part of the research and development of the ‘no concrete’ approach to the project as a whole.

The fungi-inspired pavilion was designed in collaboration with architect-designer Farshad Khazei, the team at Banati-Hartvig and the fabrication by Sa-Fa Design, based in Budapest.

Meta Garden Unveiling

"This is a forest of people, as much as trees, and is a forest for everyone. We are stronger growing together, as an entity, like the forest itself and the unseen mycelium that underpins its biodiversity. The networks of the National Forest are strong, and are essential to the changes we have seen over the past 30 years working with partners to create the Forest.

We believe in the power of trees to transform people’s lives and the landscape, and are excited to see Joe Perkins’ Meta garden relocated to the Forest. Many more people will be able to see it here and enjoy his interpretation of our interdependence through a forest-inspired garden.”

- John Everitt, Chief Executive of the National Forest
